Defining the problem. What is the relation between gallstone disease and insulin resistance in patients operated at Centenario Hospital Miguel Hidalgo?
Methodology. This is a prospective, longitudinal, comparative and descriptive clinical study. One with and another without cholelithiasis were assigned to groups. Patients were attended the outpatient clinic and scheduled for elective surgical resolution, in the preoperative workup were measured performed measuring glucose, basal insulin, lipid profile, blood pressure, weight and height. None diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia were included in this study. The stadistical analysis of the data were performed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program comparison of the two test groups with Mann Whitney U was performed.
Results. 49 patients were included in this study, the group with cholelithiasis consists of 5 men and 27 women and 10 men and 7 women group without cholelithiasis. There is no statistically significant difference in the variables of weight, BMI, basal insulin, glucose, cholesterol, HDL and LDL , there is statistically significant difference in the variables age, height , triglycerides and HOMA index .
Conclusions. The group with cholelithiasis without type 2 diabetes, without hypertension and without dyslipidemia have greater insulin resistance compared with the group without gallstones
