Factores asociados con la reprobación de estudiantes de ingeniería en las materias de matemáticas

Abstract

RESUMEN Se observa que las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) presentan altos índices de reprobación entre sus estudiantes universitarios, sobre todo en el área de ingeniería, esto da muestra de un problema de calidad educativa. El propósito de esta investigación es mostrar los resultados obtenidos a través del estudio “Factores asociados con la reprobación de estudiantes de ingeniería en materias de matemáticas” cuyo objetivo fue identificar los factores asociados y el grado de relación entre la reprobación de estudiantes de ingeniería con respecto a las materias de matemáticas que llevan dentro de su carrera universitaria. El enfoque del estudio fue cuantitativo bajo una metodología de encuesta y se realizó en la Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (UAA) con los estudiantes de ingeniería Electrónica, Robótica y Biomédica de los semestres de tercero, quinto y séptimo de cada carrera antes mencionadas, obteniéndose una muestra de 161 estudiantes para el objeto de estudio. En el análisis estadístico se utilizó la herramienta de pruebas de independencia y se aplicó regresión logística binaria a los datos obtenidos mediante un instrumento diseñado. Con base en el análisis anterior, se pudieron identificar en la muestra que dentro de las tres categorías principales de factores (institucional, académico y personal) solamente en dos de ellas existen factores que tienen poder explicativo sobre la variable reprobación. Para los factores institucionales no se encontraron variables que pudieran explicar el fenómeno de la reprobación, en cambio dentro de los factores académicos, la variable rendimiento, semestre y generación sí pudieron hacerlo. En el mismo sentido, dentro de los factores personales exclusivamente la variable sexo es una variable que puede explicar la reprobación de materias de matemáticas en estudiantes de ingeniería. Los resultados anteriores confirmar la teoría de que el fenómeno de la reprobación es multivariado, siendo los factores de muy diversa naturaleza.

ABSTRACT It is observed that the Institutions of Higher Education (IES) have high rates of failure among their university students, especially in the area of engineering, this shows a problem of educational quality. The purpose of this research is to show the results obtained through the study "Factors associated with the disapproval of engineering students in mathematics subjects" whose objective was to identify the associated factors and the degree of relationship between the disapproval of engineering students with respect to the mathematics subjects that they carry within their college career. The study approach was quantitative under a survey methodology and was conducted at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes (UAA) with the students of Electronic, Robotics and Biomedical Engineering of the third, fifth and seventh semesters of each aforementioned race, obtaining a sample of 161 students for the object of study. In the statistical analysis, the independence test tool was used and binary logistic regression was applied to the data obtained through a designed instrument. Based on the previous analysis, it was possible to identify in the sample that within the three main categories of factors (institutional, academic and personal) only in two of them are factors that have explanatory power over the variable failure. For the institutional factors, there were no variables that could explain the phenomenon of failure, but within the academic factors, the variable performance, semester and generation could do so. In the same sense, within the personal factors exclusively the variable sex is a variable that can explain the disapproval of mathematics subjects in engineering students. The previous results confirm the theory that the phenomenon of reprobation is multivariate, being the factors of very diverse nature.
