Santa Lucía

Abstract

En el presente trabajo terminal se analiza la representación de la mujer y la muerte en tres pinturas que comparten la misma temática, la imagen de la mártir santa Lucía de Siracusa, identificable en el atributo de los ojos extirpados, utilizando de marco teórico a Erwin Panofsky y Régis Debray. Las pinturas pertenecen a distintos periodos, el Renacimiento, Barroco y Novohispano, lo cual determina ciertas discontinuidades tanto en las imágenes como en los contextos culturales a los que éstas pertenecen. No obstante, la importancia de la virginidad y la muerte relacionada con la creencia de la vida ultraterrena a la que se accedía por medio del sacrificio son, a pesar de las matizaciones propias de los contextos socioculturales, las continuidades que permiten plantear el contraste con una reflexión sobre la contemporaneidad, tanto sobre la mujer como la muerte. Dicha reflexión está acompañada por la propuesta pictórica de dieciocho obras, las cuales además de apropiarse de las tres imágenes tradicionales, pretenden evidenciar los hallazgos de la investigación encontrando la anulación del cuerpo femenino a través de su exhibición, así como la negación de la muerte por medio del consumismo o la virtualidad. La definición de las mediasferas de Régis Debray, favorece el tránsito de épocas que van desde el martirio de la siracusana en el siglo IV hasta la actualidad, estableciendo un diálogo pictórico e histórico que se centra en la mujer y la muerte. Diálogo pertinente que permite entender las continuidades y discontinuidades que se han establecido por medio de la representación pictórica la cual forma parte de un proceso consciente de su época.

In this final work it is analyzed the representation of women and death in the three paintings that share the same thematic, the image of the martyr Saint Lucia of Siracusa, recognizable in the attribute of the ablated eyes, using theoretical frame work to Erwin Panofsky and Régis Debray. These paintings belong to different periods, the Renaissance, the Baroque, and the Novo-Hispanic style which determines some discontinuities in the image and in the cultural they belong to. Nevertheless the importance of the virginity and the death related to the belief of the ultra-terrestrial life which could be acceded by the sacrifice, despite of the specific nuances the social cultural contexts, the continuities that permit to present the contrast with a reflection n about contemporaneity both on women and death. This reflection is joined with the work of eighteen pictorial works, which besides appropriate the three traditional images, they pretend to make evident the findings of the investigation coming upon the annulment of the female body through the exhibition as well as the denial of the death by the consumerism or the virtuality. The definition of the mediaspheres of Régis Debray, favors the transit of the epochs that go from the martyrdom of the Syracuse in the century IV until the present day, establishing a pictorial and historical dialogue that are focused in women and the death. A relevant dialogue that permits to understand the continuities and discontinuities that have been established by the pictorial representation which is part of the mindful process of its epoch.
