El logro de los objetivos de los sistemas educativos y sus diversos componentes, entre ellos, los distintos programas educativos que llegan a las escuelas, requiere de la acción concertada de los actores de la comunidad escolar, y entre éstos una figura central es el director de la escuela.
El propósito de este estudio fue identificar las características de la función directiva en escuelas adscritas al Programa Nacional Escuela de Tiempo Completo (PETC): explorar el ejercicio de su función y las condiciones para cumplir los objetivos de este tipo de escuela, identificar necesidades de formación, documentar el proceso de adscripción al programa y sus implicaciones, y documentar buenas prácticas de la función directiva en las Escuelas de Tiempo Completo de Aguascalientes, México.
Se realizó una indagación a la misma unidad de análisis –los directores de Escuelas de Tiempo Completo– a través de un enfoque de metodología mixta para la obtención y el análisis de la información. Los resultados mostraron que los problemas que los directores enfrentan incluyen los de gestión, administrativos, organizativos y pedagógicos.
Se reporta el proceso de incorporación del Programa en las escuelas a partir de los propios directores y se identificó que existe un proceso de cambio que conlleva la adscripción al PETC que es regido por el director, en el que él enfrenta primero el reto de cambiar su propia concepción de escuela y de los procesos de enseñanza y después debe lograr lo propio en la comunidad educativa.
Los resultados mostraron que los directores tienen claridad sobre los objetivos del PETC y los lineamientos que lo rigen, sin embargo, reportaron como necesidad de formación recibir orientaciones en la implementación del Programa en sus escuelas. Los resultados mostraron también que existe una autopercepción y una autovaloración positiva del director dentro de su función en el Programa. Se reportan opciones de resolución a problemas que enfrenta el director de Escuela de Tiempo Completo en Aguascalientes, y se documentan buenas prácticas a partir de dichas opciones. Se reportan también buenas prácticas identificadas a partir de la coordinación estatal del Programa.
La revisión documental permitió identificar un perfil deseable del director de Escuelas de Tiempo Completo que es congruente con la información obtenida a partir de los propios directores que describen al director en términos de las necesidades dentro de su función y lo definen con rasgos de distintos tipos de liderazgo escolar.
In Mexico, the achievement of the objectives of the educational system, including the different educational programs that reach schools, requires the combined action of the school community and from there, a central actor is the school principal.
The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of the principalship role in the Extended Schooldays Program. The objectives included exploring the functions of the school’s principal and the conditions in which they have to comply with the objectives of this type of school, to identify needs for each member of the school community, to document the process a traditional school follows to get included in the Program, and to report good practices performed by the school principal in this type of schools in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
An inquiry to the same unit of analysis (school principals of extended schooldays program) was made through a mixed methodology approach. The results showed that the problems the school principals cope within the extended schooldays program include those of management, administrative, organizational and pedagogical order.
Among other results, it was found that there is need of change on school conception involved in this type of schools and that the process of change has to be carried out by the school principal. He first faces the challenge of changing his own conception of school and of teaching, and then, he has to achieve the same from the educational community.
There is evidence that school principals know the Program objectives and the guidelines that rule it, however, the results showed they need to be instructed in the implementation of the program in their schools.
The results also showed that there is a positive self-perception and a positive self-assessment of the school principal regarding their performance in the Program. In addition, resolution options to problems faced by the school principal of this type of schools in Aguascalientes and feasible practices are reported.
The literature review identified a desirable profile of the school principal which is consistent with the information gathered from the school principals themselves: the school principal in the context of the Extended Schools Program is described in terms of the Program itself and it is defined through a variety of different types of school leadership.
